Accelerating Literacy Learning PfS (Programme for Students)
This is where we want to teachers to add their reflections on the development and outcomes of our literacy intervention. Each teacher will target 3 students each that are reading below their National Standard and monitor their progress. During the 15 weeks of intensive intervention teachers will reflect on their practise and their literacy programmes, they will analyse their reading data and will make changes for the better.
Some key themes from the ALL seminar in Wellington:
The leadership is crucial, so the roles are clear and the project is successful
Accelerated teaching – every minute counts, don’t keep doing what doesn’t work.
Our big outcome, we want to see our students progressing at a rate we have never seen before.
Improved school systems for accelerated literacy learning
This is a research project to get better quality and effectiveness as we go
Key themes: accelerated learning and pedagogy responds to individual learning strengths and needs
Urge us to think of this as a collaborative approach i.e. avoid a broom cupboard approach, how do we get the conversations going and how do we resource it
We will be asked to record our reflections i.e. bullet points, end of week journal, wikispace blog
Reflective practice – reflecting on the teaching i.e. not external attributions – bus late, pencils not sharpened.

Session 1: Questions from our literacy leader to complete:
Please answer these reflection questions before Friday. There is no right or wrong answers so please do not stress. I am just wanting some baseline data to start our teacher inquiry process.
1. What does a good literacy programme cover?
2. What components do you have in your programme?
3. What will I see when I visit your classroom during literacy?
4. How do you know what you do is effective?
How do you monitor this?
5. Is there an area you would like to up-skill in or can you suggest ways to improve on your practice/programme?
Please Read Chapter 1 in Effective Literacy before next Monday. You will be asked to reflect on this chapter at next weeks Learning Circle.
